Who is this guy?
Started playing guitar in college with two other guys. We tried to teach each other; none of us learned much. We scattered and parted ways after a few years or else I'd be a whole lot worse.
Over the next few years I had a guitar sometimes; sometimes not.... Finally got to the point where I could afford to keep more than one guitar; I didn't play any more with two; just had more corners in the room covered up. Mostly I just did my job, kept my mouth shut and paid attention to what was going on and who was doing it. Wrote a pile of songs about it all, then lost some of them, forgot some, and threw away a bunch.... bits and pieces of them come back every once in awhile...
I'm now transitioning into to the world of piddlin' around as an OFT - Old Fart in Training. Now I'm leaving the lights on as late as I want, finding new places to play and people to play with, and still paying attention a little. There's a whole lot between these lines. That's all I'm gonna tell for now, except for once in a while in a song.
What exactly is it that I do?
If you want a category, I'm a Singer-Songwriter with a guitar and some time to kill; I generally play solo, but can round up someone to play with if needed.
Stuff I play could be described as country-folk-acoustic-roots-blues-americana-red dirt; It could also be described as opera I guess, but that would be a lie; I'll put it this way: If Ernest T Bass and BB King would have ever gotten together and jammed, I'd have fit right in.
I like playing whatever helps people lighten up a little and maybe join in, whether it's in a room full of people singing along or a few 5-year olds dancing on a patio. Best shows I've ever had were when I lived in Scottsville, Arkansas; I'd play out on the deck for a group of stray dogs that would walk up, lay down in the yard and take it all in. Never left a tip, but the most polite and best listening bunch I ever played for...
Gimme a holler if you ever need something:
